1st Station - Jesus is condemned to death
We adore You, O Christ, and we praise you. For by Your holy cross You have redeemed the world.
Verse: They led Jesus away to the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. The chief priests and the Sanhedrin kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. The high priest rose and questioned Jesus, saying, “Have you no answer? What these men are testifying against you?” But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to Jesus, “I order you to tell us under oath before the living God whether you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” Then Jesus answered, “I am; and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.” At that the high priest tore his garments and said, “He has blasphemed! What further need have we of witnesses? You have now heard the blasphemy; what is your opinion?” They said in reply, “He deserves to die!” (Matthew 26:57-66)
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, it was not the Sanhedrin nor Pilate that condemned you to death. It is my sins that condemned you to death. You stood meek and humble before Your accusers and offered no defense. You took upon yourself the punishment for my sins. Jesus, I repent of all my sins. I love You with all my heart. Holy Spirit, grant me the grace to always be meek and humble before my accusers and to love my persecutors as Jesus loved those who persecuted Him. Amen.
